There were many white gowns on the red carpet this year, but Cynthia Erivo was shining in hers. When I see someone at home in their style, I look past the clothing. I look at the person and say “what a beautiful woman.” Let’s look closer at this triumph of individual style.
Cynthia Erivo. This is a BIG night for her career. She was nominated for Best Actress, she performed, and she attended an after-party, all in different gowns. And yet, she looks comfortable on the red carpet. This is a hint that she’s at home in her style. The details and textures are gorgeous on her. The shape of her dress highlights her athletic body and also gives an exaggerated hour-glass shape that is Hollywood glamour x1,000.
She looks radiant. This is absolutely about the colors she is wearing. I’ve seen Cynthia in green, white, red, and gold hair. Her hair color here is pearl blond. Her make-up artist used brown, not black, to create her smokey eye. She’s wearing a color palette designed for her personally and her stylists nailed it. Color is very nuanced, there is a white/ cream that will look fantastic on you, and other whites that won’t. Her overall look is one of health (hello, gorgeous teeth!), because her stylists put her in the right white.
It’s no surprise that Cynthia looks like a queen, with a talented team of designers at her side. But many other people just look ok on the red carpet. A color stylist will give you color swatches and shape guidelines you can use to shop. This is where most outfits go wrong. The colors don’t suit the person, the shapes don’t flatter the person.
What statement does Cynthia make overall? I’m on the Hollywood red carpet, and I’m comfortable with who I am. I’m gorgeous and this is me!
